Reforming Accreditation To Strengthen Higher Education
This executive order (14279) directs the U.S. Department of Education to conduct reviews of higher education accreditors and take action against those imposing unlawful or discriminatory standards that conflict with federal law or Supreme Court decisions. The Department, which approves accreditors for federal student aid eligibility, is also tasked with establishing new student-oriented accreditation principles focused on academic quality, value, and intellectual diversity. These standards will require that accreditors do not use their role to encourage or force institutions to violate state laws, unless those laws conflict with the Constitution or federal law.
